About Me

I am a passionate communicator with over 8 years of professional experience in technical writing, corporate and user communications, content management system design, and multimedia development

I design text, image, and video communications that enhance the story behind your content

Much of my work experience is in the financial services and software industries. As an independent consultant and contractor, I’ve shifted my focus toward working with nonprofits, governments, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Each project I’ve worked on has presented a novel problem use study to analyze and strategize an effective and usable solution for.

Whether it’s formal reports, instructional materials, corporate communications, presentations, policies, or procedural content, I seek out ways to exceed the expected result using multimedia and interactive elements for content that users actually will want to engage with.

My work experience in technical writing, data visualizations design, and content management system development are just one part of my skillset. Blended with my MA in Technical Communication, my research into interactive multimedia, and my technical skills in creating rich content, I have the skills to elevate communications beyond just words on paper.

I collaborate with my clients to plan projects that achieve the needs of their audiences and their purpose for communicating. With me, you’ll get a clearly laid out plan and project calendar. And I’ll offer you a variety of visual interactive and multimedia options, such as infographics, data visualizations, video, process maps, and other New Media that we can work on together.

What I Do

I begin by understanding your needs, designing a project plan timeline, and reviewing your communications with you before delivering the final products.

Writing, Researching, & Editing

Useful content is rooted in audience need and your purpose for communicating. Effective communications convey information in a way that’s clear, user-friendly, and logically structured. Valuable and engaging content goes beyond simple text to incorporate visual and interactive multimedia that efficiently tells a story your audience will understand.

Visual Aids, Infographics, Charts, & Tables

Our brains are designed to process visual material faster than text. I use this to my advantage by designing visual elements to help your audience better understand your communications. Whether it’s graphical information organizers like mind-maps and process diagrams, or easy-to-read graphs that transform data into valuable narratives, or infographics that summarize key takeaways, my goal is to make your communications effective and accessible for your audience.

Video, Interactive Content, & Multimedia

No one wants to read a 200-page report filled with jargon, just to be left confused and disengaged. That’s why I use New Media technology to lift your story off the page, leveraging video and multimedia elements to clarify complex points and interactive storytelling to empower your readers to make meaning of your communications.

Work Experience Overview

2018-2024

Site Social SEO

Co-Owner, Content Strategist

I co-own a digital marketing agency specializing in website design, content marketing, copywriting, brand management, and social media for law firms across the nation. I lead a team of 7 writers, editors, WordPress publishers, and content strategists, to supervise their work to meet our standards, help them improve in their skills to meet our clients’ expectations, and to continually seek new ways to deliver greater value to our clients through high-quality and rich multimedia content.

2023-2024

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
(ICANN)

Technical Writer

I worked closely with the Name Collision Analysis Project (NCAP) discussion group to manage their study project and was responsible for writing the Study Two report for the Security and Stability Advisory Committee at the request of the ICANN Board of Directors. The purpose of this work is to prepare for ICANN’s new generic top-level domain application program by advising the ICANN Board about the prevalence and risk of name collisions in the domain name system, while also providing recommendations for mitigating risk.

Research Specialist

I collaborated with various external vendors, including instructional designers and graphic designers to produce interactive course materials related to technical and public interest topics, contributing my own ideas for widgets, structure, and other elements to serve learners’ needs. I wrote copy on issues of global public interest, such as implicit bias, diversity, and inclusion. Additionally, I wrote various communications, including presentations, for an executive to deliver to the ICANN Board of Directors.

My favorite part of the role was engaging in research on issues of human rights as they relate to business risk management. I developed a semi-automated system for evaluating quantitative and qualitative data from multiple reputable domestic and international sources to measure risks of human rights infringement to specific marginalized populations. I integrated Google Forms and Google Sheets and created a system that automatically assigned risk values based on input, generating an overall risk profile based on various framework criteria, and automatically updating a dashboard I’d created to visualize risk levels.

2023-2023

Pinellas County Government Office of Budget & Management

Policy Writer/Editor, SharePoint CMS Consultant

I partnered with various senior managers to collaborate on a new standardized template for policy documents (contributing my own special focus on usability and clarity of structure), and preparing a project tracking chart to manage over 100 documents. I migrated policies into the new structured template and wrote updated policies based on gaps in the existing documentation. I also helped build the SharePoint infrastructure for housing the new policies.

Finally, I produced both text-based and video instructional materials to train employees on how to use the new content management system for retrieving policy documents, how to create new policies using the template, and how to use the newly implemented review workflow for edits to existing policies.
